"An acid-fried freak-out races through on A Case of Mistaken Identity’s intense “Retail Death”. Lyrics have a hallucinatory affect to them perfectly matching the wide-eyed gaze of the arrangements. Tempos are brought past the breaking point as the drums try in earnest to keep up with the dazzling effect of the guitars. Fuzz is a must for the sound is drenched in distortion with the taut angular punk guitar work adding to the unhinged presence. Psychedelic to the extreme the hypnotic elements help to nicely stretch out the sound, making time irrelevant as the songs at times touch upon a trance-like quality. Every track builds off the last for the album works best when taken in as a singular whole.

Volume is not a must it is a given, right from the start up of “No Reason to Doubt”. Here the song has an agitprop quality to it, with elements of the Pop Group’s deep-set grooves underpinning the whole of the track. A playful cadence takes hold on the aptly named “In the Red” which serves as the highlight of the album, as the vocals have a commanding presence. Riffs race through as it details the ruthless brutality of mindless consumerism. Taut grooves balance themselves together on the chaotic “Knots”. Nicely bringing it home is the trippy “Unknown Storage”.

“Retail Death” defies any current rock trend, proving A Case of Mistaken Identity to be purveyors in the tried and true roots of rock’n’roll’s best bombast." - beachsloth
